Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 172

Configuring Outlook Express
Please make sure to follow all the steps below. Failure to do so will cause errors when sending or receiving email.

1) With Outlook Express open, select "Tools" from the top menu and then "Accounts".

2) Selecting Accounts will bring you to a window that looks something like the one on the left.

From here you want to click the "Add" button and select "Mail."

3) The first window you are given in the setup wizard allows you to enter the name you want displayed in your email.

This is the name that will appear in the From line of email sent from this account.

4) After clicking "Next" in the previous screen you will now enter your email address.

For most people this is your first name followed by an underscore ( _ ) and then your last name. Some users may have a first initial last name format.

Click next to proceed to the next screen.

5) In this screen you want to make sure that "POP3" is selected and that "mail.troop172.com" is used for both the Incoming (POP3) and Outgoing (SMTP) fields.

Click "Next" to proceed to the next step.

Please note that some ISPs do not allow the outgoing server to be a server other than their own.  They may require you to replace "mail.troop172.com" in the Outgoing (SMTP) field with their server information.  The Incoming (POP3) server must always be mail.troop172.com.

6) Here you need to enter your login information. By default Outlook Express enters the beginning of your email address into the "Account name" field.

You MUST add "@troop172.com" to the end of your username.

You are also given the option to save your password here. Simply enter your password and check "Remember password if you would like to do this.

7) Clicking "Next" in the step above will bring you to a finishing menu. When you click "Finish" you will return to the accounts window.

You have now completed your email setup.
